Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Asif has been released from jail after serving half of a 12-month sentence in the United Kingdom for his role in the spot-fixing scam. The 29-year-old former world No 2-ranked Test bowler was freed from Canterbury Prison in Kent on Thursday morning.

Pakistan pace bowler Mohammad Asif's detention in Dubai was result of a misunderstanding and charges of possessing contraband drugs against the pacer has been dropped, according to Pakistan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Ahsan Ullah Khan. Khan claimed a misunderstanding led to Asif's detention in Dubai airport on Sunday on his way home from Mumbai after the pacer participated in the Indian Premier League.

It had approximately 5.4 milligrams of nandrolone traces in his urine sample. Asif arrived in Karachi from Dubai and without coming out of the terminal caught a connecting flight to Lahore where the Pakistan Cricket Board headquarters are located.
